Affordable Housing Advocacy Project

The affordable Housing Advocacy Project advocates for the housing needs of low and very low income households who have been increasingly priced out of the housing market in South Florida. The program seeks to increase development of housing affordable to low and very low income households and to preserve existing housing affordable to the low income population in Broward and Collier counties.

The Project provides representation to households being evicted due to closure of mobile home parks for redevelopment. The project also seeks to assist mobile home park residents to organize home owner associations which then have the right of first refusal if their park is to be sold. The association also gives homeowners a way to collectively address living conditions in the park and to fight evictions due to park closure.

In addition, the project provides assistance in the organization of Tenant Associations in project based Section 8 housing units. The Tenant Association gives the tenants a collective voice to address conditions of the units and to mobilize residents if the owner seeks to terminate the Section 8 contract.

  • Dought vs. City of Hallandale Beach, lawsuit that challenged the mobile home park closure. The project negotiated a monetary settlement of $25,000 plus relocation of the client.
